Wagga Wagga is located on the Sturt Highway and Murrumbidgee River, midway on the railway line between Sydney and Melbourne. It is in the centre of Australia?s population triangle (Sydney [475kms], Canberra [240kms], Melbourne [440 kms] and Adelaide). The largest Aboriginal tribe in New South Wales, the Wiradjuri, were the original inhabitants of the place. It is from their language that the city is named. Wagga means "crow" and repeating it means "crows", hence "a place of many crows". Today it has a population of approximately 58,000 - homo sapiens not crows.
